Recognition of rural leaders
THERE’S no doubt about the strength of many women living and working in Queensland’s far-flung regions, and an annual award program run by the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network seeks to honour those women.
Network president Melissa Barnett said nominations were now sought for the 2018 awards.
“The QRRRWN Strong Women’s Leadership Awards are important because they recognise the valuable contributions rural, regional and remote women make to their communities,” she said.
“The awards program starts long before the finalists are chosen.
“The program itself, through a series of webinars and mentoring, provides an opportunity for the finalists to experience an awards program from nomination through to promoting their work, and many steps in between, developing skills and confidence for the women involved.
“The awards ceremony at the QRRRWN state conference each year ensures that recognition of the finalists’ achievements goes well beyond their own communities to the wider public.
“QRRRWN believes the awards give the nominees and the finalists confidence in the knowledge that what they are doing really does benefit the community they live and work in, and beyond.
“Nominations can be made either by the individual nominee or, more often, by a member of their community.
“To be thought of highly enough by your community to be nominated for a QRRRWN award shows, more than anything, the calibre of the nominees and finalists.
“A number of finalists have also gone on to win national awards for their work, or to be accepted into nationally recognised leadership programs.”
Nominations for the award program close July 8, and include a variety of categories and fields of leadership. Find out more at qrrrwn.org.au.
