Living Gems’ first resident still very happy she made the move
ORIGINALLY from Lismore, Bronwyn Newman, 70, always thought she would move to Toowoomba.
Since moving in as the first resident of Living Gems Toowoomba in September 2016, Bronwyn has seen a lot of changes around the resort.
Ms Newman made the decision in 2013 to move from the family home, as she was having trouble managing the 250-acre property on her own.
She always planned to move to Toowoomba to retire as her son lives locally, and after a long search of accommodation options she was sold when she first saw Living Gems.
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, my children suggested that I looked into over 50s resort-style communities,” Ms Newman said.
“Around June 2015 I came over to Living Gems after seeing an ad and the moment I saw the resort I knew I would be happy here,” she said.
“I put down a deposit of $500 on the lot straight away and a year a bit later I moved into my brand-new home.”
“I find it very nice here, the weather is much better than down south and there is hardly any humidity. I have already started using my lovely gas fireplace, it lights up just like wood and looks great, just like a big wood fireplace.”
“I chose the Wattle floorplan for my home, it is a good sized two bedroom home with a lovely alfresco area that I have decorated with a few plants.”
Bronwyn and the rest of the social committee are busily setting up all the different hobby group timetables and social events such as the weekly movie night and happy hour barbecues. “I was the first resident to move into the Toowoomba resort but since then the number of residents has grown considerably. There is a lot happening now, with the recent opening of the country club, we are all very excited.”
“I am looking forward to having a go at all the different facilities, particularly the swimming pool, lawn bowls and tennis. One place you won’t find me though is the music room!”
“It has changed my life living here especially as a woman living alone, I feel safe and secure in this gated resort and it is comforting to be around so many like-minded people.”
“The lifestyle is great here, the people are good, I never feel lonely with friends always popping in to say g’day or calling to invite you for a game of cards. You can do as much, or as little as you like — I find this life good.”
