Glennie School claims another Darling Downs equestrian title
EQUESTRIAN: The Glennie School is establishing itself as an equestrian powerhouse.
Competing at the Darling Downs Interschool Regional Equestrian Championships, the school claimed its fifth straight Grand Champion Secondary School title and was named Grand Champion School.
The 18-rider team lead by equestrian captain Emma Massey won the combined training, showjumping, show horse and showman disciplines and finished second overall in dressage.
School officials were particularly impressed by the team’s showjumping win – a title they have not secured in a number of years.
‘‘ THE GIRLS NEVER FAIL TO IMPRESS ME WITH THEIR SKILL ON A HORSE AND SPORTSMANSHIP... JACKY REDMAN
The secondary team was supported by lone primary school rider and year four student Ellie Stenzel.
Stenzel rode in three disciplines and was announced Primary Show Hunter Champion for Show Horse, runner-up in Primary Preliminary Dressage and Primary 3 Phase runnerup in Showman.
The individual accolades didn’t stop with Stenzel.
Sarah-Jane Coggan won the Summers Trophy for the student achieving the highest points across all disciplines, after an impressive weekend of riding.
“The girls never fail to impress me with their skill on a horse and sportsmanship at events like this,” equestrian coordinator Jacky Redman said.
“They have been rewarded for the many hours of training they commit to preparing for this event.”
The team will now turn its focus to training for the State Inter school Championships being held in Caboolture from today until July 3.
