A TREK through three countries would be a holiday for most but for Marie Lindner it will be a walk to tick off her bucket list.

The Crows Nest woman with terminal cancer will trek through three countries in five days.

Ms Lindner described the day she was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer as easily the worst day of her life.

“I felt rotten receiving that news,” Ms Lindner said.

Since her diagnosis, she has been supported by the Breast Cancer Network of Australia.

Ms Lindner decided to show her gratitude to the network and challenged herself to take on the Pink Lady Mont Blanc Trek in September to raise funds for its work.

The 80km hike is a five-day journey around the Mont Blanc range which lies in France, Italy and Switzerland.

“I have been overseas before but this will be my first trip to Europe which is exciting,” she said, adding the trek was on her bucket list.

“I’ve never really been out of my comfort zone so I am really looking forward to this trip.

“It is going to be a challenge but it is one that I am looking forward to.”

People who nominate to take the trek must raise $4000 for sponsorship.

‘‘ THEY HAVE GIVEN ME SO MUCH, SO THIS IS MY CHANCE TO GIVE BACK. MARIE LINDNER

Ms Lindner paid for her own nomination for the trek, which means the money she raises goes straight to the network.

“They have given me so much, so this was my chance to give back,” she said.

Ms Lindner started raising money three months ago and has raised $2800.

She will raise money for the network until the fundraiser finishes in September. That includes a barefoot bowls event from 3pm on Saturday, June 30, at the Crows Nest Bowls Club.
