Educating emerging exporters
NINE businesses on the cusp of exporting will learn how to navigate the intricacies of global markets with the launch of the Emerging Exporters Program.
The program, lead by Food Leaders Australia in partnership with QGC, will help nine Western Downs businesses from different industries and sectors reinvent themselves to be export-ready and connect with experts and service providers.
The nine selected businesses are Running Gully Meats, Jim’s Jerky, Teraform, Maranoa Beef, Carter Rural Industries, Condabilla Fish Farm, Elliott Agribusiness, Procrew and DF & KJ Knudsen, FLA Export manager Geraldine Doumany announced yesterday.
“That’s the diversity of of companies that are at the point of export and that’s going to be a learning experience for everyone,” she said.
“Export is not something that happens overnight.
“For many of these businesses it’s about getting their business structure and model right.
“That helps them to assess risk, what they can take on (and) it also helps make informed decisions about what market they’re going to, what price to charge.
“But first and foremost is getting that business model right.”
For businesses such as Teraform, which opened at Miles two years ago, the program will help source possible markets for its nutrient rich algae processed at the farm.
With potential to expand into the Asian market, particularly Korea, Ms Doumany said the program linked the business with experts and specialists throughout the three-year program.
QGC operations manager Angus Hetherington said the program gave “local businesses the education and support needed to enter international markets with produce from one of Queensland’s richest agricultural production areas”.
