OUR SAY Hard life to live, work with enemy

- LOUISE O’MARA

I DON’T know how to break this to you, but I apologise for what I am about to write.

It is something I often feel ashamed about, especially the last several years.

But it is also something I cannot help.

You see, it is in my blood and you can’t help where you come from.

So here goes... I am a Blues supporter.

Yep, I was born in Tamworth and have always been a cockroach. Even when we lost eight years in a row.

I admit that was a tough time. I have been living in Queensland since 2004. Of the last 14 series, NSW has won just three.

That is incredibly abysmal. It started off pretty well in 2004 and 2005 as I enjoyed teasing my college cane toad mates. Queensland and NSW were pretty even on the series ladder at this stage.

But besides a brief break in 2014, it has been all downhill since then.

State of Origin is the time of the year I both dread and look forward to.

I am practically shunned by my workmates here at The Chronicle. They love to tease me about my Blues roots.

They send me all those mean memes like NSW holding the shield and “Remember this? Neither do I”.

But it is even worse being married to a proud Maroon supporter. My husband just loves that Queensland wins every year.

My birthday is right before game three, so once again I know what my wish will be.

They say miracles can happen right?
