DNA order granted over death

POLICE have been granted permission by the courts to take DNA samples from four people charged with murdering Toowoomba mum Debbie Combarngo.

Ashley Aaron Fing, Ty Peter Fing, Joshua James Lingwoodock and Lynn Fay Jean Anderson were all subject to the order filed in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday.

Co-accused Rhonda Hall was also listed, though her solicitor successfully sought an adjournment of her matter.

The other defendants’ solicitors either did not oppose the order or consented to it.

Confusion arose in court this morning as Magistrate Damien Carroll questioned why the order was needed in the first place.

“Shouldn’t I have some evidence,” Magistrate Carroll asked.

“I have to be satisfied these orders are needed to establish the commission of an offence.

“Having said that, there’s also the issue of eliminating people.

“I can make an order but the question of eliminating people from this offending is in the public interest.”

Ms Combarngo died after nine people stormed a Wilsonton unit in May armed with golf clubs, metal poles, and a knife.

Police prosecutor Acting Sergeant Julia Wheaton told the court that two other people were also in the unit at the time of the 37-year-old’s death. They have not been charged.

Their involvement, or the circumstances surrounding their presence in the property, has not been revealed by police or mentioned in open court.
