Play on Chamberlain at Empire
A PLAY about the mother whose daughter was taken by a dingo is coming to Toowoomba.
Letters to Lindy, a play about Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton and the death of her daughter Azaria in 1980, will be performed in August.
“A mother accused of murdering her child, her claim that the baby was taken by a dingo - denied and discredited by zealous police and a flawed legal system,” the synopsis reads.
“The media circus, the rumours, the mob mentality, and a nation’s prejudices laid bare. Over three decades, from baby Azaria’s death to the final coroner’s report, the public wrote more than 20,000 letters to Lindy Chamberlain.
“Letters to Lindy draws on this correspondence, as well as extensive interviews with Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton herself, to create an enthralling, moving, and long overdue dialogue between Lindy and the nation.”
Merrigong Theatre Company CEO Simon Hinton said the company was touring the play all around Australia.
“Merrigong is particularly proud of the work we have produced in Letters to Lindy, a part of our continued focus on producing and presenting new Australian work,” he said.
“The story of Lindy Chamberlain is an iconic and important one for all Australians.”
Letters to Lindy, directed by Darren Yap and and starring Jeanette Cronin as Lindy, will be performed at the Empire Theatre on August 7 at 7.30pm.
Adult tickets start from $47.
