‘‘ KNITTING AS A HOBBY AND IS FADING WITH THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS JAN GORRING

TOOWOOMBA knitter Jan Gorring has put the call out for knitters to pick up their needles and join the fun.

Ms Gorring and the Queensland Country Women’s Association will host World Wide Knitting in Public Day at Bon Amici on Saturday from 11am-1pm.

This will be the first time the event has been held in Toowoomba.

Ms Gorring has been knitting for the past 20 years.

World Wide Knitting in Public Day is a global event which encourages knitters to come together and share their craft.

Ms Gorring said the day was a good way to bring knitting back to the forefront.

“Knitting as a hobby and is fading with the younger generations with clothing such as jumpers becoming cheaper.

“Bonnets and booties aren’t being used like they used to. So we’re doing different styles of knitting to what we use to.”

Ms Gorring is hoping to have 20 people come and participate on Saturday’s event.

World Wide Knitting in Public Day is held in countries such as Australia, China, Norway and South America.

Ms Gorring said the best part of knitting was how relaxing it could be.

“It’s good see a garment you have worked on when it’s finished.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies because there will be limited supplies available at the event.

Ms Gorring said everyone who would like to participate with the event were welcome to join.
