Coles rolls out enviro bag range
STYLISH plastic bag alternatives with a charitable edge are now available at Coles supermarkets across Toowoomba.
Seven durable and reusable bags designed by school children have been delivered to the city’s stores ahead of the statewide plastic bag ban which comes into effect on July 1.
And these bags come with a charitable side as portions of their sales will support Clean Up Australia, Little Athletics Australia, SecondBite and Guide Dogs Australia.
“There’s no doubt that the phasing out of single use plastic bags will be a big transition for our customers,” Coles state general manager Jerry Farrell said.
“However we thing that customers are willing to give up the plastic bag and use reusable bags for the sake of the environment.
“We have been running trials in some stores and the response has been positive.”
The reusable plastic bags are a shoulder, chiller, tote and jute bag, each with a unique design chosen from more than 1000 entries by school children across the country.
The $2.50 chiller bag was designed by Lachie Macdonald, 8, and features a flock of birds flying into the sunset, while the $1 fruit and vegetables bag was designed by Hiro Kojo, 16.
The bags are environmentally friendly because they can be used over and over again.
At the end of their lives, the shoulder bags and tote bags can be recycled at REDcycle bins at Coles supermarkets.
