Psychological-drama to play at Friday at Flicks
THE University of Southern Queensland’s Artworx Friday at the Flicks will screen Melancholia.
Born from a therapy session during writer and director Lars von Trier’s treatment for depression, it is the film that won Kirsten Dunst not one, but two best actress awards.
Melancholia is a psychological-drama, which explores the observation that depression sufferers have a tendency to remain peaceful in the face of catastrophe.
The film follows two sisters as a rogue planet sets a collision course for earth.
While one sister struggles to find happiness on what should be the happiest day of her life, the other struggles to maintain composure in the face of sure disaster.
Friday at the Flicks is USQ Artsworx annual movie program, that screens classic, significant and challenging films.
A five-minute pre-screening talk sets the context and then post-show drinks and nibbles allow for a discussion with a community of film enthusiasts.
The film series offers a friendly group environment where film lovers can talk about the movie, over wine and canapés, pre and post movie.
It will be screened on Friday, June 15 from 6.30pm. Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $12 for members.
