Ballet’s timeless classic brought to city theatre
Queensland Ballet returns to Empire Theatre with Swan Lake after last year’s La Fille mal gardée
QUEENSLAND Ballet is set to bring one of the world’s most-loved ballets, Swan Lake, to Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre for three performances.
Queensland Ballet returns following last year’s highly-popular and much-appreciated La Fille mal gardée.
Artistic director Li Cunxin said he was thrilled to have the opportunity to present a work as timeless and as unforgettable as Swan Lake to Toowoomba audiences.
Widely-regarded as one of the greatest ballets of all time, Mr Li described Swan Lake as traditional ballet at its most heart-breaking and glorious.
“Swan Lake is QB’s highest selling production to date, and I’m particularly pleased to be sharing the magical choreography of Ben Stevenson’s production with Toowoomba audiences,” Mr Li said.
Swan Lake audiences will be transfixed from the opening bars of Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score, transported into the magical fairytale world and whisked away in a whimsical flight of swans, cygnets and fluttering tutus.
Set in a majestic kingdom, the story of Swan Lake follows the ultimately tragic love of a noble prince and his bewitched maiden.
“A favourite of audiences, choreographers and dancers alike, Swan Lake is one of those ballets that every ballet lover wants to see and every classically-trained dancer wants to perform,” Mr Li said.
Ben Stevenson’s traditional production elevates what is a cherished and celebrated favourite. Swan Lake’s exquisite choreography, beautiful costumes and evocative sets will delight audiences young and old.
“Ben is a master storyteller and brings his own special magic to Swan Lake .Itis a production close to his heart, and one that audiences must not miss,” Mr Li said.
Ben Stevenson’s Swan Lake opens at Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre on Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 for three performances.
