A MASSIVE cold front is about to sweep across the state, bringing freezing temperatures to Toowoomba.

Higgins Storm Chasing said Monday would easily be the coldest day of the year for many areas of Queensland.

So far, the coldest day this year for Toowoomba was on the first day of winter, June 1, when the minimum was recorded at just four degrees.

This Monday Toowoomba is set to reach between three and 12 degrees, with winds of up to 45kmh.

The wind chill factor will cause the “feels like” temperature to sit below five degrees.

“The Darling Downs and Granite Belt won’t get above 15 degrees but this will be nothing compared to the wind chill factor. If you’re outside in Toowoomba on Monday the feels like will be less than five degrees all day,” a Higgins report said.

Tuesday won’t be much warmer with minimum of three degrees and maximum of 15. Again, winds are expected to reach up to 45kmh.

According to Higgins, widespread morning frosts are likely to develop through the southern inland on Sunday before pushing close to the coast and further north on Monday and Tuesday.

Severe frosts are expected across the Granite Belt and as far as Roma. Heavy frost is also likely across the Darling Downs, Warrego and Maranoa districts.

A high pressure trough shifted off the east coast late yesterday with fine, sunny days developing across much of the state for the weekend.

Today will reach between five and 18 degrees, and tomorrow will be cooler with a minimum of six degrees and maximum of 14.
