Colour run raises funds for school’s air conditioning

-

HUNDREDS of students from Toowoomba East State School put on their white shirts yesterday for the school’s first colour run fundraiser.

P&C president Karen Schultheiss said it was a general fundraiser for the school.

“We want to buy new uniforms for the choir and some will go towards new air conditioning in classrooms too,” she said.

“We hope to get enough funds soon to get air conditioning in classrooms.”

During the fun run, which was organised by professional fundraising organisation Australian Fundraising, students ran around the school oval for 15 minutes while teachers and parents threw clouds of coloured dust at them.

Ms Schultheiss said from this one event the P&C had so far raised $16,000, with more money still expected to come in next week.

“It’s good to have it at the end of term as it’s a celebration of the end of semester though we do still have another week to go,” she said.

“It’s colourful, it’s celebratory and the kids are having a great time.”

She said a lot of parents would most likely be working hard at the weekend to clean clothes and get the colour out of students’ hair.

“I bought garbage bags for the kids to sit on on the way home,” she said.

“It’s good for the kids as they feel like they are part of the fundraising and contributing to the school.”
