Coldest people on the street

2nd Shot coffee on footpath

WHILE people across the Darling Downs collectively shiver this week, spare a thought for the 2nd Shot coffee ladies on Ruthven St in Toowoomba’s CBD.

2nd Shot is literally on the footpath and raises funds for the homeless and other services at The Base Services.

Caity Danaher and Bindi Wenitong have absolutely no protection from the cold blasts of wind roaring along Ruthven St as they serve coffee and hot chocolate to cold pedestrians who walk by.

“We’re the coldest people in the street,” Caity said with a smile.

“But the cold is good for business.

“A lot of people are getting large coffees and hot chocolate today.”

The fact their efforts go to helping those in need at least warms their hearts, Bindi explained.

“We’re a social enterprise and the proceeds go to help the homeless,” she said.

“You get a 2nd Shot at coffee and a 2nd Shot at life.”

Caity said working at 2nd Shot was fulfilling.

“I met Natt (owner Natt Spary of Base Services) who offered me a job with meaning to,” she said.

“And, this does give me meaning.

“And, it’s for a good cause.” Caity and Bindi stand at 2nd Shot coffee stand from 7am to about 1pm each day except Sunday, come hail, rain, shine or freezing wind.

“When we get free time we take turns of standing in the sun,” Caity laughed.
