Thunder prepares for Olympic-sized challenge

FOOTBALL: Nothing changes for the South West Queensland Thunder when they face Olympic FC today.

Despite their last start 2-1 loss to Brisbane Strikers, the Thunder will face Olympic full of confidence.

“It (the defeat to Strikers) was very frustrating,” Thunder captain Jacob Bigby said.

“The game was there to be won and we missed the opportunity.

“I think we showed them a little too much respect toward the end of the game.

“But we take a lot more positives away from the game than we do negatives.”

Despite missing out on a fourth straight win, Bigby said the Thunder were firmly focused on the task at hand.

“We’ve identified a few things we think we can take advantage,” Bigby said.

“We’ve looked at the way they play and we are well prepared.”

More importantly, Bigby said he believed the NPL squad had the right attitude.

“A little while back we had a sports psychology session,” he said.

“I think it was a real shift for the team.

“It’s bought us together as a team. We learned that we all have a shared goal, something we can work towards.

“We all have a lot more belief in ourselves and our teammates – we’ve got a real winning mentality.”
