RUGBY LEAGUE: As the TRL Premiership enters the second stage of fixtures, standings haven’t become any clearer through another tight season of the league.

There are a number of teams outside the top five that have just six games to push their way into finals contention, as well as the current top five looking to position themselves best for the next stage.

After fighting out an intense Madsen-Rasmussen Trophy final, Valleys and Wattles look well poised to battle it out for the minor premiership, with a four-point gap to third.

Finishing in top spot earns the minor premiers a week off during the first week of the finals, and both mid-season finalists will need to keep up their strong form, with both sides hosting just two out of their remaining six fixtures.

Their clash on July 29 in the second last round of the season could very well decide who finishes on top.

The race for third is wide open with Highfields, Warwick and Dalby all sitting on 14 competition points.

The next fortnight will prove vital to claim the important qualifying spot, with Warwick taking on both Highfields and Dalby in consecutive fixtures.

Outside of the top-five, Gatton is the next closest challenger on 10 points.

Pittsworth sits in seventh on eight points, and the defending grand finalists will desperately want to produce a win over Dalby tomorrow to keep their hopes alive.

Oakey is also on eight points, and with a poor for and against, they are going to need to win at least five of their last six to have any shot at the finals.
