HOCKEY: A NEW generation of players is ready to become part of Toowoomba’s proud hockey history.

Three Toowoomba representative teams are in the final stages of their preparation for the upcoming state championships.

Toowoomba will send two under-13 girls teams to Bundaberg and an U13 boys side to Mackay in July.

All three sides will face Queensland’s best young players but Toowoomba coaching director Terry Khan is confident they will be more then competitive.

“It’s a big step up from the school titles and Darling Downs duties,” Khan said.

“But I’m confident we will be up there – we’ve always placed among the top sides – and this group of players is very strong.

“The girls made the finals last year and the boys were very competitive.”

Khan also expects to see a number of Toowoomba players secure Queensland jerseys after the state titles.

“It’s a point of pride that we are able to produce so many Queensland players,” he said.

“We don’t have the numbers to draw on like other regions but we always have high representation.

“We are producing more and more great players every year.

“It all starts with great programs. The hockey association is extremely supportive of what we do and the facilities we have here are second to none.”

The State Championships will run July 8-11.
