REBEKAH Wood was supposed to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave event at St Joseph’s College last week.

Instead the 14 year old broke her ankle, had an asthma attack and spent the week in Toowoomba Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit because of complications with her asthma.

On Friday the teenager braved the scissors and had her hair cut off inside the children’s ward at the hospital.

Mum Helen Wood said she was incredibly proud of her daughter.

“I’m so happy she’s giving back to the community,” Mrs Wood said

“I’m happy she wanted to pay it forward, as we have been so lucky with the medical community with all the help she’s been getting from doctors and the Toowoomba Hospital staff.

“We were hoping to do the shave earlier in the week, but then she went into ICU.”

Mrs Wood said Rebekah had so far raised about $920 for the

“She’s recently had lots of hospital admissions because of her asthma, including a number to the ICU,” she said.

“It was disappointing it had to be delayed as it would have been nice for her to do it with other students, as it is part of a group activity.

“And it was disappointing because people donated money and were asking if she had shaved yet. It was disappointing not to have a response for them.”

About five other students took part in the World’s Greatest Shave event at St Joseph’s College.

Mrs Wood said she hoped Rebekah would be discharged from the hospital today and was looking forward to her coming home.
