TOOWOOMBA visual artist and clothing designer Evan Dean has drawn inspiration from military clothing, clashing camouflage punctuated with hi-vis for his latest street wear designs.

Working under the clothing label Evelyn, Mr Dean has experimented with bold images and screen print treatments on a collection of Dutch, Austrian, American and German military jackets, which he has sourced from Paris and local vintage stores.

Mr Dean’s use of fluorescent thread, alongside traditional print and embroidery, creates unconventional effects.

“Working with vintage military clothing has been an exciting process,” Mr Dean said.

“Repurposing fabric with up to 60 years of use has delivered unexpected results.”

Offering a short run of unique prints and embroidery, Mr Dean said his designs were for those looking to push back on mass-produced fashion and stand out from the crowd.

“Working on a small scale gives me the ability to break the confines of fast fashion,” he said.

“As contradictory as that may sound, fast fashion plays it safe, offering the consumer what they are already comfortable with.”

He said these unique jackets were part of the Evelyn 2018 winter collection available at the Queens Park Markets or online any time through Instagram
