Wet weather set to end winter’s dry spell

-

IT COULD be time to get something out of the cupboard you have not used in a while, an umbrella, as the Bureau of Meterology has predicted rain is on the way.

While Toowoomba residents have shivered through a cold winter so far, with temperatures dropping to six degrees yesterday, the clear blue skies that have been a staple of this winter are set to disappear for the next few days.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Blazak said out of the greater Darling Downs region, it was the northwest area of the region that was set to see the most rain tomorrow.

“In the northwest part of the region, around Miles and Dalby, you can expect something around the 5mm mark,” Mr Blazak said.

“As you go towards the southeast area, around the Granite Belt, you’re looking at more the 1mm mark.

“There will be very isolated heavier patches. There might even be the odd rumble of thunder, but there will be heavier showers in that rain band that could total up to 15mm in the northwest and about 4mm around the Granite Belt.”

Mr Blazak said Toowoomba residents could expect day time temperatures to drop and night time temperatures to rise.

“The day time maximum will be a little bit cooler because of cloud cover,” he said.

“Conversely the night time minimums will be warmer because the cloud cover is like having a blanket over us, it moderates the temperatures a bit and brings the maximums and minimums closer together.

“So we’re looking at a top of 15 degrees for Toowoomba on Wednesday after an overnight of 10. It will be four overnight down near Stanthorpe, getting up to a top of 15.”

It’s set to be partly cloudy from Thursday to Sunday.
