Ryan’s hoping to take wyong by storm

- – Ray Thomas

TRAINER Gerald Ryan, who is priming popular veteran Red Excitement for the Listed $150,000 Civic Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, is poised to plunder the Wyong provincial meeting today.

Ryan is sending three runners to Wyong, including Mollyfied for the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 65 Handicap.

Mollyfied has finished just behind the placegetters in two city starts since resuming from a spell, prompting Ryan to consider a possible change of riding tactics.

“I’ve gone back over her runs and I feel we might have been riding her a touch close,” Ryan said.

“We will try to ride her a little more conservatively and she should run well.

“The soft track is not an issue as she has been placed on a heavy 10 at Warwick Farm.”

Ryan also expects Clifton County to make his presence felt in the Charity Cup Benchmark 66 Handicap (1350m).

He won his maiden at Kembla Grange and has been placed in two of his three starts, including his third behind Final Frontier on a heavy track at Wyong earlier this month.

“He has been racing consistently,” Ryan said. “He has the speed to take advantage of his good draw (barrier four) too.”

Ryan’s other starter, Rebecca’s Quest, will line up in the two-year-old Maiden (1300m).
