SCHOOL SET TO BLOOM FOR CHRONICLE GARDEN COMP
THE Christian Outreach College has its sights set to outdo its previous effort in this year’s Chronicle Garden Competition.
The school has entered in the school gardens category for the competition which is held in conjunction with the Carnival of Flowers in September.
Christian Outreach College grounds manager Brendan Ott said this year would be his second on the school garden.
“I’m excited to do this again. We achieved a lot of praise for our garden last year which means we have to do better this year,” Mr Ott said.
“The competition is a good opportunity to put the trade skills to the test and show off the school.”
Plants in the front garden of the college include camellias, magnolias and gardenias.
“We’re trying to gradually improve the overall look of the school,” Mr Ott said.
The college has also taken the time to show the students how to turn gardens into functional spaces.
“We’ve been working with the Year 9 and 10 class about how they can transform areas in the school so the gardens would be visually appealing but very functional for students,” he said.
“They’re a good bunch of kids here. Any time we need a hand, they jump in.”
The nomination entry form is published in The Chronicle each Monday.
Entries for the competition close on Tuesday, July 31.
