Rising boxing star keen to shine in Stanthorpe

-

BOXING: Brendon Smith can’t have a conversation with rising boxer Chris Brackin without the youngster making mention of Stanthorpe.

While Toowoomba is his adopted home, Stanthorpe will always be home for the Brackin family.

Now he’s pushing to have a professional fight in front of his home crowd.

“Chris Brackin is very proud and parochial about Stanthorpe,” Brackin’s trainermanager Brendon Smith said.

“He’s forever in my ear about wanting to fight in Stanthorpe.

“He’s really pushing hard for the opportunity.

“This is something that is very important to Chris so we’re going to try and make it a reality.

“Stanthorpe is a wonderful sporting community with a rich history and this young man Chris Brackin is the next in line.

“Stanthorpe has never had professional boxing in the town so it would be pretty special to bring a show to that community headlined by one of their favourite sons.”

The Brackin name is also synonymous with boxing in the Southern Downs region headlined by the legendary deeds of the late, great Sel Brackin.

“I’m proud of where I come from,” Chris Brackin said.

“I was, am and will always be a Stanthorpe local.

“Stanthorpe has been great to my family and this is a way I can give something back to the community that’s given me so much.
