The President is Missing

-

AUTHOR: Bill Clinton and James Patterson PUBLISHER: Penguin RRP: $32.99 REVIEWER: Jason Gibbs

DON’T let the title fool you – the president is not missing – at least not in the way you think.

The president is very much front and centre and the influence of another president (one Bill Clinton) is also very apparent in The President Is Missing.

Promising details only a president could know, there was a danger this book could get bogged down by political machinations – that however is not the case.

Working with Bill Clinton, James Patterson has crafted a story full of intrigue, suspense, thrills and action.

President Duncan may be a little too hands-on but he’s a celebrated war hero so a lot of what he does makes sense.

And while some of the patriotic posturing and questioning of the media may be a little heavy handed at times – it works when you consider who President Duncan is and how he has been written.

It all works because only the slightest suspension of disbelief is required to make the story plausible.

It’s a story that could be happening right now and that’s what it makes so damn readable – an exciting and captivating read.

Things started a little slow but once Clinton and Patterson showed their real hands, once they lit the fuse, it was hard to stop reading.

I found myself easily devouring page after page – waiting for the pay-off – only to discover nothing was what it seemed.

I liken it to a book that combines the best of A Few Good

Men and the gun play of James Bond – how can that be a bad thing?

IT’S A STORY THAT COULD BE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW AND THAT’S WHAT IT MAKES SO DAMN READABLE – AN EXCITING AND CAPTIVATING READ.
