Cressbrook Dam throwing up some pleasing results

- WITH KRIS GEORGE FROM FISH ’N’ BITS BAIT & TACKLE

COOBY DAM

THIS past week at Cooby has been lacking numbers of fish because of the strong winds and rain we’ve had.

Keeping your blades or bait closest to the bottom will be key.

Some small cod have also been picked up on worms and saltwater yabbies.

The northern arm of the dam has been the pick of the areas.

CRESSBROOK DAM

SOME great results have been coming in from all over the Cressbrook dam.

The Cressbrook Creek arm has definitely by far been the place to start searching.

Casting blades, tailspinners and spoons have been by far the pick of the baits.

Fishing large lake points in the basin has resulted in some good fish as well.

LESLIE DAM

THERE has been quantity but very little quality at Leslie.

With the water level still dropping, the main creek bed has been fishing quite well.

Locating the creek bed and fishing the drop-off with either blades or saltwater yabbies, also trolling this same area can be very productive.

SOMERSET DAM

SOMERSET has been hot and cold this past week because of the wind direction as this really can make a difference on this dam.

Locating the fish can be quite tricky at this time of year as they can be quite hard on the bottom until the school has been activated.

Trolling over likely areas can be the best way to trigger a bite from a shut-down school.

Pelican Point is holding some good fish.

Also the Kirkliegh Flats is holding good numbers as well.

COPETON DAM

THERE was definitely some good action at the start of last week at Copeton.

A good frost made them come quite shallow up into the warmer water.

These fish are perfect to target with either top-water lures or swimbaits.

Large mumblers have made quite a statement over the last month with some big fish landed.

Targeting those steeper rock banks with these baits is ideal when the sun comes up.

MORETON BAY

SOME reasonable reports have been filtering through of some good catches of snapper and bream just off Mud Island.

Baits or small plastics fished quite light have worked well on the run-out tide.

Good numbers of small spotty mackerel have been showing up quite random throughout the bay.

Always be on the look out for birds working active bait.
