Lynch lost for season and may go

-

AFL: Gold Coast captain Tom Lynch may have played his last game for the club.

The key forward will miss the remainder of the season after succumbing to a posterior cruciate ligament injury.

A free agent at season’s end, he will be pursued by several Melbourne-based clubs keen to acquire his services.

Lynch missed four matches earlier in the season and had been managing the injury during the year, but experts advised the Suns this week that surgery would be the best option.

The 25-year-old said he was frustrated the injury would end his 2018 season.

“It’s a really disappointing to know that I’m going to have to have surgery and not play out the season,” Lynch said.

“I’ve been doing all I can to rehab the injury without requiring surgery.

“That has meant I haven’t been able to get out there and train with the team during the week like you normally would.

“We’ve been assessing my knee weekly and the latest advice recommends surgery and I’ll get that done as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have announced rookie Brad Lynch will make his AFL debut against the Cats at Etihad Stadium tonight.

The 20-year-old will become the club’s fourth debutant this season, after Aaron Naughton, Ed Richards and Billy Gowers.

A running defender, Brad Lynch has put together some strong VFL form including 19 disposals and six marks last weekend.

Exciting young midfielder Quinton Narkle will become Geelong’s sixth AFL debutant of the year.
