The latest cattle sale reports

ROMA

NUMBERS increased by 2500 to reach a total of 9000 head at the Roma Store Sale. The highlight of the sale was a vendor bred line of close to 1500 head of annual weaner cattle. The overall quality of the yarding was generally good and this attracted a larger number of buyers into the saleyards. Buyers appreciate­d the large numbers of good quality runs, and prices generally improved across a number of categories. A fair sample of cows were also penned and average prices increased, especially the plain condition lines.

The largest number of steer calves returned to the paddock at an average of 283c with some to 308.2c/kg. A large selection of light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 275c with sales to 297.2c/kg. Yearling steers in the 280–330kg range were in demand and averaged 281c with sales to 310.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed or restockers sold around 276–281c with some to 300c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed averaged in the early to mid 270c range with sales to 281.2c/kg. The largest numbers of light weight yearling heifers sold to restockers or background­ers at an average of 251c and made to 272.2c/kg. Yearling heifers in the 280–330kg range reached a top of 276.2c with the largest numbers at 253c/kg. The better end of the medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 268.2c to average 249c/kg. Heavy weights to the trade reached 249.2c to average 242c/kg.

A handful of bullocks made to 267.2c to average 265c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows sold to restockers at an average of 174c and made to 179.2c/kg. Medium weight three scores to processors averaged 186c and made to 188.2c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 216.2c with most around 212c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 249.2c/kg.

WARWICK

WARWICK agents offered 873 head, down 73 head on their last sale. The quality of the yarding was fair to good with the number of plainer and lighter cattle increasing in keeping with the season. The normal buying panel was present and active. Prices improved for many classes, particular­ly in the heavier end of the yard for both slaughter and feeder lines.

The few vealer steers averaged 264c with vealer heifers making to 280c to feed on occasions with general averages from 230–240c/kg. Yearling steers averaged 270–276c/kg for the better bred lines, a big improvemen­t on last sale. Yearling heifers were also much improved to make from 230–268c/kg.

Grown steers were in short supply, selling to 249c to feed with a handful of bullocks making to 278c/kg to processors. Grown heifers sold to a top of 243c/kg to the trade. Prime four score cows were keenly sought after averaging 216.4c with sales to 223c/kg. Heavy bulls to processors made to a top of 241c to average 229c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

THE forecast of rain reduced the supply of stock down to 411 head. Most of the usual export buyers were in attendance and operating, along with the regular trade and feeder buyers and restockers. The small sample of light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 11c/kg better and medium weight yearling steers to feed also sold to a dearer trend. The short supply of cows experience­d some improvemen­ts in price with the plain condition classes gaining the most.

Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 254c with some to 278.2c/kg. Yearling steers in the 280–330kg range to feed averaged 255c and made to 270.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 261.2c to average 252c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to the trade made to 292.2c to average 276c/kg. A handful of light weight yearling heifers made to 219.2c while the lesser quality lines averaged 177c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 228c and heavy weights to the trade averaged 246c and made to 254.2c/kg.

A small selection of heavy grown steers sold to export slaughter at an average of 258c with some to 265.2c/kg. Poor condition medium weight cows averaged 138c and a few two scores averaged 171c/kg. Heavy two score cows averaged 185c and good heavy cows made to 219.2c to average 207c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 230c/kg.

DALBY

THERE was a small reduction in numbers and light rain fell as the sale progressed. Most of the usual buyers were in attendance and operating. Prices responded to the rain with heavy weight yearling steers to feed 6–9c dearer and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged more than 20c/kg better. Heavy grown steers and bullocks lifted in price by 18–20c/kg. Cows also sold to a dearer trend, with average prices improving by 6–8c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made from 260.2–292.2c to average 274.6c, up 6c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to the same made from 249.2–276.2c to average 267.4c, up 22c/kg.

Medium weight grown steers to feed made from 242.2–262.2c to average 248.6c, 4c/kg better.

At the time of the interim report there were too few grown heifers to quote.

Heavy weight cows to process made from 203.2–224c to average 214.8c and be 8c/kg better. The best of the bulls made to 246.2c/kg.

GYMPIE

SULLIVAN Livestock yarded 1495 cattle at their Gympie sale held Monday, June 25, where the market remained firm to dearer for all descriptio­ns. Cattle were drawn from Booubyjan, Cloyna, Boompa, Aramara, Hervey Bay, Maryboroug­h, Woolooga, Kilkivan, Kenilworth, Eumundi and all local areas.

Charbray steers from Jan Mulholland, Widgee Crossing, made $2.65 to return $1268. Droughtmas­ter steers from Lewis and Markey made $2.60 to return $1098 and $1056. Charbray steers from Neil Hayward, Sexton, sold for $2.60 ($1086 and $1070). Droughtmas­ter cross weaner steers from Neville Bird, Langshaw, made $2.69 ($766). Santa cross steers from the Finney Family, Manumbar, made $2.83 ($665). Charbray steers from Bevan Christense­n, Glen Echo, made $2.77 ($687). Generally weaner steers sold from $2.50–$2.81.

Simbrah heifers from Trevor and Evaglyn Pike, Wonga, sold to a top of $2.61 or $1038. Brahman cross heifers from Norm Clancy, Boompa, sold for $2.45. Heavy heifers generally sold from $2.20–2.47. Quality weaner heifers sold from $2.20–2.70 to restockers, while vealer heifers sold from $2.00–2.18.

Charbray cows and calves from Greg Breitkreut­z, Goomeri, made $1375.

Droughtmas­ter cross cows and calves from Boobyjan made $1,350.
