Plenty on offer for Toowoomba visitors

-

HERE at The Chronicle, we’re pretty proud of the beautiful city we call home.

And we have to dig our heels in when Mackay Tourism general manager Tas Webber told Mackay’s Daily Mercury there isn’t much to do in the Garden City.

We reckon that statement is a bit off.

Here are a few reasons why.

Iconic events

IF YOU really think Toowoomba has no tourism drawcards, you’re forgetting one massive thing - the Carnival of Flowers and The Chronicle Garden Competition.

The iconic 10-day event brings people from all over Australia together for a celebration of our beautiful city, complete with food and heaps of entertainment.

More than 255,000 people flooded in to join in on the fun at TCOF last year.

It’s also taken gongs home from the Australian Tourism Awards, and has been awarded Hall of Fame at the 2017 Queensland Tourism Awards.

You can have a boat

WE’VE heard a few rumblings from our friends up north about not being able to pop a boat down in Toowoomba.

Clearly the beach lovers aren’t aware bodies of water exist beyond the ocean.

Boating, canoeing, windsurfing and sailing are allowed on the beautiful Lake Cooby.

Another hotspot for water

sports in the Toowoomba region is Lake Cressbrook. Tranquil gardens

WHO can forget the lovely sights from which Toowoomba gets its nickname the Garden City.

Whether it’s taking a stroll through Queens Park, Laurel Bank Park or the Japanese Gardens, there are plenty of tranquil spots scattered around the city.

Explore nature

TOOWOOMBA might not have a beach, but there are plenty of natural wonders to explore.

Residents and visitors can take a walk up Table Top Mountain, or a bushwalk through Ravensbourne National Park.

Massive bands visit

LOVE live music? Plenty of great Australian artists are adding Toowoomba to their list of tour dates.

Here are just some of the great bands who have recently performed, or will perform later this year in the Garden City:

■ You Am I

■ Hoodoo Gurus

■ The Smith Street Band

■ The Preatures

■ Cloud Control

■ The Living End

■ The Temper Trap

■ The Angels
