TRL office break-in hits hard Sports offices broken into twice
THE TRL has been forced to spend hundreds of dollars upgrading its office security after it was broken into and ransacked twice in four days.
Vigilant residents near the offices on Cress St reported suspicious activity on Friday night when thieves broke into the property that serves as the home for NRL development officials and southwest Queensland touch football organisers.
TRL chairman Brian Gilroy said cash was stolen and draws rifled through during that incident before offenders struck again on Monday night.
Mr Gilroy said three computers were stolen, and added they were useless to the thieves as they were password protected.
He said it was a blow to the organisation which was run by volunteers who worked tirelessly to develop, encourage and promote rugby league in Toowoomba.
“I’m a volunteer; a lot of volunteer work goes into it,” he said.
“No-one is getting any money out of it (the TRL).
“It is a community organisation.”
He urged those responsible for the break-ins to return to the computers and join a volunteer organisation to give back to Toowoomba and understand the hard work that goes into community groups.
Mr Gilroy said the TRL was forced to spend $700 replacing one of the stolen computers as well as installing security screens and systems to prevent similar incidents.
While that hasn’t put at risk any programs or initiatives being worked towards by the TRL at present, Mr Gilroy said it could impact future plans.
“It’s money what could have been spent on other things down the track,” he said.
