Searching for winning form

Ol’ Brown Eyes looks to end his run of outs

RACING: It’s been a while between celebratory drinks but trainer Troy Pascoe hopes he’s found the “right” race at Clifford Park tomorrow for Toowoomba six-year-old Ol’ Brown Eyes to rediscover winning form.

Ol’ Brown Eyes will look to break his lengthy run of outs in The Journey Benchmark 65 Handicap over the 875-metre sprint course.

The Big Brown gelding hasn’t been successful since scoring at Clifton in September but returned from a threemonth break to finish second behind Kid Cruize in a Burgess Park Benchmark 58 Handicap (860m) in May.

Ol’ Brown Eyes produced a fair midfield effort behind Saipan over the same course last time out and lines up tomorrow after a three-week break.

“It’s been a while between wins for him now and there is not a lot around when you are trying to place him,” Pascoe said.

“But I think this is the sort of race he can be competitive in and can bob up in if he produced his best on the day.

“860 metres is not ideal for him and he needs an old head and strong rider to get the best from him.

“We’ve got Ronnie (Goltz) on this week so we’re hoping

that’s a plus for him.

“I thought Dragon Street looked the hardest to beat in a pretty open looking race.

“He’s such a good shortcourse horse you have to respect him.”

JOCKEY Skye Bogenhuber winds up a busy week when she returns home for six

rides on tomorrow’s Clifford Park card.

Bogenhuber travelled to Grafton yesterday where she scored aboard Scherzare ($6) for Scone trainer Brett Cavanough.

She links with Cavanough again today with five rides for the stable at Muswellbrook.

Bogenhuber’s book tomorrow includes Brenda and Archer’s Treasure for trainer Michael Nolan.

TOOWOOMBA fouryear-old Niccanova will be out to deliver connections a belated winter feature success when he lines up a warm favourite for trainer Steve Tregea in today’s

$100,000 Rockhampton Newmarket Handicap (1300m) at Callaghan Park.

WARRA Race Club hosts its annual race day tomorrow with four races on the card starting at 1.40pm.

Country racing tomorrow includes five-event programs at Wondai and Charleville.
