FOOTBALL: Willowburn and USQ FC have faced off several times this season – with USQ claiming two wins from their three regular season clashes.

USQ is also unbeaten in the Toowoomba Football League premier men’s competition but will take nothing for granted tonight.

“Every match is difficult in this competition,” USQ coach Matt Proctor said.

“And every team and game presents a different challenge.

“We have played Willowburn a few times this season but we can’t take anything for granted.

“Teams change their players, formation and style.

“Willowburn could set up a completely different way compared to how they did last time we played. We won’t know that until we’re into the match.

“You just have to be ready and focused.”

And the currently unbeaten ladder leaders will need to ensure they are focused and firing from the start of their clash at Commonwealth Oval.

USQ was almost punished for a lethargic start in their last game against Gatton – forced to fight back from a goal down for a 2-1 win.

“We didn’t start well or put away our early chances – it happens sometimes,” Proctor said.

“The positive is we showed good character and worked hard to get into the game and win it.

“You don’t get any extra points for winning pretty or any less for winning ugly.”

Injuries and suspensions aside, Proctor said USQ will take a largely unchanged side into their match with thirdplaced Willowburn.

“One of the things I’ve tried to focus on this season is building a tight knit unit,” he said.

“We’ve built that bond on and off the park which I feel has worked to our advantage. “When you have that bond it helps you in those tight situations during a game.”

The match will be played at Commonwealth Oval tonight. Kick off is 7pm.
