ROMA

THE supply of stock reduced to less than half of the previous week’s level to 4329 head. Overall quality was generally good and cattle were drawn from a wide area of the state. A fair panel of buyers covering all classes was present and operating. Light falls of rain in places lifted buyer enthusiasm and prices on lightweight yearling steers averaged 6c/kg better. Medium weight yearling steers to feed for the domestic market lifted prices by 4c/kg on top of the improvements of the previous week. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed received only a small lift in price. Most of the yearling heifers experienced price improvements of 3c to 4c/kg and more in places. The mixed quality line-up of cows sold to within a few cents either way the previous week. Mixed sex calves averaged 241c and made to 248.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top 296.2c with a fair sample averaging close to 282c/kg. Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range sold around 278c with some to 292.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 280c and made to 294.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 244.2c/kg.

WARWICK

THE yarding increased by 144 for a total of 1017 head. There was a good supply of young cattle and grown cattle were also well represented. The yarding of young cattle consisted of a good supply of yearlings and weaners. Quality was mixed with a large percentage of plain conditioned cattle, but there was several runs of well-bred steers and heifers suitable for restockers and feeders. There was a limited supply of well finished yearlings, mainly supplementary fed. Competition was stronger on most classes of cattle with restocker weaner steers selling 10c dearer, topping at 294c/kg. Weaner heifers struggled in the market to top at 238c/kg. Feeder steers were firm to 4c dearer topping at 286c to average 276c/kg. Trade yearling steers were up by 6c selling to a top of 321c, while the heifers sold up to 291c/kg. Restocker and feeder yearling heifers also struggled to equal last week’s prices selling to 268c/kg. The yarding of export cattle consisted of a few more grown steers this week, mainly wellfinished three and four scores, while there was a fair penning of cows. Grown steers were up to 20c dearer selling to a top of 300.2c/kg. Heifers sold to 268c/kg. The cow market improved by 15c to 20c, with three score medium weights averaging 209c and heavy cows sold to 238c/kg. Bulls also met a stronger market selling to 255c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

ONCE again the forecast of some rain reduced the supply of stock further to 354 head. Export buyer attendance was not as strong as the previous week but most of the regular feed and trade buyers plus some restockers were operating. Prices for a small sample of light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock improved and this trend also flowed onto the medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed. Most classes of yearling heifers experienced a dearer market. Bullocks were too small in numbers to reliably quote. The short supply of cows generally sold to a firm market. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 264c with some to 276.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 266c and made to 275c with a handful to the trade reaching 299.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 266c and made to 270c with a small selection to the trade reaching 299.2c to average 292c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers sold around 228c/kg. Medium weights to feed averaged 243c and made to 253c with local trade lines reaching 269.2c to average 254c/kg. Heavy weight B muscle yearling heifers made to 290c/kg.

A couple of bullocks made to 281.2c and a few others to 275.2c/kg. Medium weight poor condition cows made to 168.2c and the best of the medium weights made to 202.2c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 213.2c to average 205c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 247.2c/kg.

DALBY

THERE was a small increase in supply to 3977 at Dalby. A large panel of export buyers was present and included in the line-up was some interstate processors. Prices lifted for some classes, with heavy weight yearling steers to feed average 12c better. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed for the domestic markets gained over 30c while heavy weights were 1c to 3c/kg dearer. Heavy grown steers and bullocks experienced very little change on the improvements of the previous week. However all classes of cows were in demand with improvements of 8c to 16c/kg. Light weight yearling steers to feed have made from 260c to 290.2c to average 279.1c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed have made from 252.3c to 286.2c to average 268.8c/kg. Heavy weight grown steers to processors have made from 270c to 298.2c to average 288.5c/kg. Too few grown heifers have sold at the time of this interim report for a reliable quote. Heavy weight cows have made from 197.2c to 224.2c to average 211.9c and be up 8c/kg. The best of the bulls has made to 260.2c/kg at the time of this report.
