Tips to look stylish this winter

-

EITHER love the cold or hate it, there’s no denying you can look incredibly trendy with the latest winter fashion pieces.

Don’t get stuck in a winter fashion rut this season.

It’s easy to put on a pair of trackpants and a sweater, to hunker down and keep cosy.

But there are still six weeks of winter so make the most of it with these style tips.

Exploring the great outdoors in winter is easy when you’re all rugged up, and Grand Central has shared some tips to ensure you stay warm and look great as you get out and about in our beautiful region.

Grand Central marketing manager Marieke Bridgeman said Toowoomba’s beautiful parks and gardens offered a spectacular backdrop and the winter landscape provided the perfect inspiration for this season’s trends.

“Rich hues and rugged natural fabrics will help you brave the elements in style,” Ms Bridgeman said.

GRAND CENTRAL TIPS FOR WINTER FASHION

■ Accessorise wisely

Wardrobe woes are not uncommon in winter. One minute you’re cold, the next you’re hot and there are so many dark colours. That’s where the accessories come in.

Inexpensive and underrated, the right scarf and hat are just what you need to add colour and texture.

■ Choose your hues

Moody blues, cedar browns and slate greys are big news this season. They’re a great alternative to the standard-issue sombre shades and work beautifully as wardrobe staples.

If you want to add a shot of something bright, make a statement in the new favourite shades of crimson or tangerine.

■ Get layered

It’s winter and layers are your friend.

The golden rule is to start with the lightest layers next to your skin.

Keep your look sleek by sticking to fine knits, reserving thicker fabrics for the outer layers so you can discard them once you’re indoors.

■ Wrap it up

Enjoy the warm yet pliable embrace of a blanket wrap that can be thrown on over anything you own and still come off looking good.

A mid-weight wool blend will provide warmth on a cold day, while the easy poncho shape and relaxed, oversized fit means you can wear pretty much whatever you want underneath. ■ Pro tip

If you are heading off the beaten track with falling temperatures and wind chill, a waterproof outer is a must.

If you’re doing some serious hiking, don’t wear cotton next to your skin as it soaks up perspiration and can leave you feeling chilled.

Instead choose polyester blend fabrics that boast “moisture wicking” so your skin can breathe easy.
