TOOWOOMBA’S own chocolate factory will now open its ‘cellar door’ every Saturday after a successful first run at the weekend.

Metiisto co-owner Trevor Smith said there had initially been some confusion over when the factory, in Harristown, would be open to the public, but said that it would be open from 9am to midday every Saturday.

“It’s not a permanent shop,” he said.

“It’s like a cellar door type outlet on Saturday morning, that gives people the chance to come in to see us, buy from us and talk to us.

“It’s an opportunity to get across point that we are chocolate manufactures and answer peoples questions and just to talk to them.

“People have a lot of questions, so this gives us the right environment to answer them and with the machines around we can explain things better.”

Mr Smith said the business would try to do something special on top of its normal bars for the Saturday openings.

“We had the chocolate covered almonds last Saturday, they were very popular,” he said.

“We’ll possibly keep doing the hot chocolate, as long as it’s cold and everyone’s interested.

“It’s about doing something special, trying to keep it interesting.”

Metiisto was founded in Sweden several years ago before relocating to Toowoomba earlier this year. It sources its beans direct from farmers in the Solomon Islands and exports its chocolate right around the world, to Europe, the US and New Zealand.

The factory is located at 19 Croft Cres, Harristown.
