THE University of Southern Queensland’s business school has been named one of the top three business schools in Australia.

The university’s engineering school also took out one of the top three places in the University Reviews ranking.

University Reviews rates Australian universities, including specific study areas, using a formula of student numbers, student and graduate satisfaction and graduate salaries.

According to 2017 results, USQ was listed in the top three for “best business and management schools” and “best engineering schools” in Australia.

Commerce school head Professor Roger Lawrey said the university trained students to be innovative and adaptable professionals.

“The emphasis on industryspecific skills in our teaching is important, the results of which can be seen in student satisfaction and graduate salaries data,” Prof Lawrey said.

“We provide access to major accounting software and finan- cial databases within our courses, giving students a hands-on approach to using the programs that they need post-graduation.”

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering school head Associate Professor Tony Ahfock said the result was because of the effort of many staff members.

“Focused on giving our students the best education to prepare them for industry, from the lecturers to support staff. Student outcomes are our priority,” Prof Ahfock said.

Civil Engineering and Surveying school head Professor Kevin McDougall said USQ engineering programs were fully-accredited and recognised worldwide.

“We provide students with the opportunity to develop the wide range of skills needed to find innovative solutions to practical problems,” he said.

Management and Enterprise head Professor Peter Murray said his courses constantly evolved to align to industry needs.
