TOOWOOMBA is in with a chance of rain today before skies clear for the weekend.

After a bone-shattering cold start to the week in some parts of the region, residents can expect a reprieve from the cool with slightly warmer temperatures from tomorrow.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Nyssa Lonsdale said while today had a chance of some rain, it was expected to clear this weekend.

“There are some sunny days coming up for the weekend but still only getting up to 15 (degrees) on Saturday and 17 on Sunday,” she said.

“It will be cool overnight, going for a minimum of three on Saturday and two Sunday.

“(But) there is a chance of rain on Friday as a trough approaches.”

Ms Lonsdale said the trough system would pass through the Darling Downs where similar conditions would be felt.

But she warned wind gusts of up to 40km/h were possible in parts.

“We’re not expecting large amounts of rainfall; probably looking at a few millimetres,” she said of today’s rainfall.

“It’s more the gusty winds. There will be light showers with that, and most of the weather will be on the coast.”

It comes after parts of the region shivered through minus zero degree temperatures yesterday.

Stanthorpe had a minimum of -4.3 degrees, which was still warmer than its coldest day of the year, -6.1 degrees on Saturday.

Roma yesterday had a minimum of -1.2 degrees. Its coldest day this year was -5.3 on Sunday.

Toowoomba’s overnight low on Wednesday was 6.9 degrees.
