IMAGINE mixing sport with Oktoberfest.

Well that’s what you get from a night at the darts 21-century style.

The Professional Darts Corporation has brought the traditional pub-based game out of the dark ages and into the here and now and the public love it.

Darts is not just about watching the world’s best players on stage hitting 180s and nine-dart finishes. Your average darts fan now wants a party and fancy dress is the way to go.

Arena darts has now become a perfect excuse to grab your friends, don your favourite superhero costume or fancy-dress outfit and immerse yourself in a weekend’s worth of pure entertainment.

Of course, with the fancy dress comes alcohol and if you get along to the World Series of Darts in Brisbane in August then you can expect plenty of that. The party atmosphere is now compulsory as PDC chief executive Matt Porter explained in an interview with The Guardian during last year’s World Championships at Alexandra Palace in London.

“Modern darts is a combination of sporting excellence and a superb atmosphere,” Porter said.

“Too many sports dictate to their audience.

“We know what our audience want and we deliver it.

“Nobody leaves here thinking it wasn’t a good night’s entertainment. Nobody.

“It’s the same template wherever we go in the world, Auckland, Las Vegas, Shanghai, Dubai, it’s exactly the same show,” Porter added.

“It’s up the players to go up there and perform, and the crowd to turn up and create an atmosphere.”

The World Series of Darts is at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from August 1719 and the Hisense Arena from August 10-12.

Tickets are available from ticketek.com.au.
