Usain would be insane addition to A-League

-

IT’S BEEN a long time since I’ve been this excited about an A-League season.

And we’re still months out from kick-off.

For the first time in a long time my club – the Brisbane Roar – have been active early in the pre-season ensuring they’ll hit the ground running at the start of the season.

And from what I’ve heard our own Daniel Bowles will be fit and firing, so fingers crossed we see more of him this season.

Several new coaches have taken charge of clubs ensuring the competition will have a different feel to it this season

And in the women’s game our top talents are doing great things on the national and world stage.

But all this pales in comparison to the news coming out of the Central Coast.

The world’s fastest man and eight time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt is set to trial with the Mariners.

I’ve been watching a lot of forums and the majority of people seem to be against it – labelling it a joke and saying it harms the A-League’s image.

Those people are wrong, so very very wrong.

Bolt is nothing but a winner for the A-League.

The news is already being talked about around the world and Bolt hasn’t even laced up his boots yet.

Bolt is one of those rare athletes that is instantly recognised world-wide and the ALeague can share the spotlight for a little while.

If he doesn’t make the cut, the Mariners turn to the next guy in line – no harm, no foul.

But if he’s good enough can you imagine the interest it will generate.

The A-League has signed some big footballers before, but no one that could draw nonfootball fans to the game.

Bolt playing would be like a lightning rod – pardon the pun – attracting all types of people to game.

And if even 20 per cent of those extras hang about that’s a win for the A-League.
