SKYE SADDLES UP BEFORE MAKING HER SCONE MOVE
Top jockey saddling up for Scone
RACING: One great ride goes on hold while another beckons for Skye Bogenhuber who is hoping to exit full-time Clifford Park riding on a winning note tomorrow night.
Bogenhuber departs Toowoomba in coming weeks for Scone to take up a role as stable rider for trainer Brett Cavanough.
It’s the latest career opportunity for Bogenhuber who arrived at Clifford Park as a country circuit apprentice and went on to create Toowoomba racing history with numerous achievements, including five successive premiership wins and a Weetwood victory.
Bogenhuber has five early rides on tomorrow night’s final Clifford Park meeting of the 2017-18 racing year.
Her farewell comes during a stellar end to the season for Bogenhuber including a Sunshine Coast victory last Saturday aboard pick-up ride Sacred Rebel for leading Australian trainer Chris Waller.
“I was so thrilled just to pick up the ride, and to finish up riding a winner for Chris Waller was an absolute dream,” Bogenhuber said yesterday.
“The timing of it couldn’t have worked out better as well.
“Chris Waller’s foreman contacted me and said with my move to New South Wales there might be a chance for me to pick up some other stable rides if the opportunity arises.”
Bogenhuber’s rides tomorrow include last-start winner Brenda, from the Michael Nolan stable, the Lindsay Hatchtrained Kimhorsedashian and Occhilupo for trainer Ben Currie.
“It’s been a pretty busy time and I’ve had a bit of a sad week losing one of my pet horses on Tuesday,” Bogenhuber said.
“Ill be riding at Scone on Monday and Warren on Tuesday but I’ve been handling all the work and travel pretty well.
“The exciting opportunities coming up is really motivating me at the moment.
“I should be settled in down there by the end of the month, which I’m looking forward to and I’m trying to catch up with as many people as possible before I go.
“But it’s not as though I’m going that far away.
“I hope to get back when the chance comes up and I might even come back for the occasional ride if I have a quiet Saturday every now and again.
“But it would be nice to leave with a winner here tomorrow after I ride at the Gold Coast.
“I’ve got a few of nice chances, so here’s hoping.”
