ROMA

THE supply of stock increased by 200 head to 10,400 at the Roma store sale.

Cattle were drawn from a wide area of the state including far western districts.

Buyer attendance was good and most were operating.

The overall quality of the young light weight cattle was not up to the standard of the previous sale and this was reflected in average prices.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 7c/kg less.

However medium weights to feed experience­d very little change in price and the heavy weights averaged 4c/kg better.

Light weight yearling heifers followed the trend of most other centres and averaged 14c/kg cheaper.

Neverthele­ss the medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed improved in price.

Cows to export slaughter lifted in price by 11c to 17c/kg compared to last sale.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to the occasional 310c with most around 278c and heifer calves averaging 199c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 274c, with some to 291.2c and lesser quality lines to 245c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 303.2c with a large sample averaging 285c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed averaged 292c and made to 300c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold in the 220c range with sales to 250.2c and poor quality lines made 202c/kg.

The largest sample of medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 263c and made to 278.2c/kg.

A few heavy weights to feed averaged 250c and some to the trade made to 252.2c/kg.

Medium weight two score cows averaged 189c and the three scores close to 215c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 251.2c with a fair sample averaging 242c/kg

WARWICK

NUMBERS were down slightly for a total of 1324 head.

The yarding consisted of a good supply of both young cattle and grown cattle.

The yarding of young cattle consisted of yearlings and weaners in good numbers.

It was a mixed quality yarding with increased numbers of well finished heavy and medium weight yearling steers that were keenly sought after, with the better bred steers attracting the strongest interest.

There was also a fair number of plain cattle through the sale.

Most cattle met a stronger market, especially the steer portion, with restocker weaner steers selling to a top of 283c/kg.

An extra buyer entering the market this week saw medium weight and heavy feeder steers lifting by 20c/kg, mainly for the well-bred steers.

Medium weight and heavy feeder steers sold to a top of 318c, with the medium weights averaging 303c and the heavy weights averaging 292c/kg.

The yearling and weaner heifers didn’t reach the last sale’s prices as there was not the same buyer interest.

Restocker weaner heifers sold to 257c and feeder heifers sold for an average of 249c/kg.

The few trade heifers topped at 276c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of several pens of well finished grown steers, a few pens of heifers and a fair penning of cows.

Competitio­n was stronger with grown steers averaging 17c dearer, from 281c to 307c, while heifers topped at 269c/kg.

The cow market was 6c to 10c dearer, with 2 score medium weights averaging 195c/kg.

The three score medium weights averaged 230c, and heavy cows sold to a top of 251c/kg.

Heavy bulls sold up to 266c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

NUMBERS remained virtually unchanged and a fair panel of buyers provided stronger competitio­n across most classes.

Overall quality was mixed with some very well presented lines scattered through the yarding.

A lift in quality saw light weight yearling steers to restocker’s average close to 20c/kg better.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 11c to 12c/kg dearer and a small selection to the trade were also keenly sought after.

Light weight yearling heifers sold lower while the medium and heavy weight yearling heifers were dearer.

A small selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks were noticeably dearer.

Medium weight plain condition cows experience­d very little change in price, however the better heavy cows gained 10c to 11c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 270c and made to 296.2c and lesser quality lines averaged 226c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 275c and made to 295.2c and a few to the trade made to 297.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 278c and made to 290c and local trade lines made to 305.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold in the high 220c range with a top of 235.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged 257c and made to 294.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 246c and local trade lines averaged 260c and made to 280.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 299c and a few well presented bullocks made to 306.2c/kg.

Grown heifers averaged 263c and some B muscle lines reached 296.2c/kg.

Medium weight two score cows averaged 175c and made to 185.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows sold around 231c with a top price of 244.2c/kg.

Heavy bulls to processors made to 249.2c/kg.

DALBY

NUMBERS were down following last sale’s large yarding, by 2247 for a total of 6132 head.

The yarding consisted of a good supply of yearlings, grown steers were well represente­d, while there was a good yarding of cows.

Quality was fairly good with several lots of well finished cattle through the sale, some supplement­ary fed, however there was a fair percentage of plain conditione­d cows from drought affected areas.

The market was stronger with feeder steers selling firm to 10c dearer, medium weights sold to 309c for an average of 296c, while heavy feeder steers sold to 307c to average 291c/kg.

Feeder heifers were 10c dearer topping at 270c/kg.

Grown steers met keen processor demand to be 3c to 10c/kg dearer.

C4s sold to 312c for an average of 295c/kg.

Grown heifers sold to 251c/kg.

The cow market ranged from 10c to 15c/kg dearer.

Medium weight two scores averaged 201c, while medium weight three scores averaged 229c/kg.

Heavy cows sold from 240c to 259c/kg.

BIGGENDEN

Burnett Livestock and Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday, July 16 saw a yarding of 1182 head.

Heavy bulls topped at 287c/kg, steers over 600kg topped at 276c, cows over 500kg topped at 247c, cows 400kg to 500kg topped at 239c and trade heifers over 400kg topped at 269c.

Feeder steers 400kg to 500kg sold to a top of 285c while steers 300kg to 400kg sold to 287c. Steers 200kg to 300kg sold to 299c. Heifers 300kg to 400kg sold for 261c and heifers 200kg to 300kg sold to 260c.

Two and four tooth limousin bullocks from Boompa sold for 295c/$1732.

Eight tooth brahman cross bullocks from Brooweena sold for 279c/$1560.

Six tooth brahman bullocks sold for 283c/$1621.

GACEMERE

THERE was an increase of 745 head at CQLX Gracemere with 3400 head on offer.

Vealer heifers sold to 274c on occasion, however averages reduced to 213c/kg, partly due to a drop in quality and condition.

Yearling steers topped at 300c with most returning 248c to 270c/kg.

Yearling heifers were mixed, with an occasional sale to 258c and better-bred pens making 220c to 248c/kg.

Four-score grown steers sold to 265c, averaging 259c/kg for the few on offer.

Medium framed cows with calves at foot returned $1000 to $1300/unit.
