Join the force for industry
DELIVERING high quality food and fibre for domestic and overseas consumers is not an easy job.
Queensland primary producers face constant challenges from government decisions, the natural environment and fluctuating markets.
Peak industry groups like AgForce are at the forefront of grappling with these challenges and coming up with solutions that advance sustainable agribusiness and deliver better outcomes for all rural Queenslanders.
AgForce’s elected representatives, who give their time, skills and knowledge to help their fellow farmers, have a key role in setting the organisation’s direction and policy positions.
This week nominations open for positions on AgForce boards and regional councils for the next two years.
We’re urging the best and the brightest within the industry to step up, be a voice for farmers and help us drive polices that take agriculture and rural Queensland forward.
There are so many ways to get involved.
Members can nominate to be on the AgForce Queensland Farmers Limited Board or on one of the commodity boards representing cattle, sheep and wool, and grains producers.
At a more local level, there is also an opportunity for AgForce members to be on a regional council in the north, central, southeast, Southern Inland and southwest regions.
Here are some quotes from those who are or have been involved as AgForce representatives:
■ “Being an elected representative of AgForce means I help set policy to contribute to our industry’s future. This is our family’s future and although it takes me away from our property, we believe this is well worth it. I have learnt a lot from being involved in AgForce working with people dedicated to ag.”
■ “Complain about the cards you are dealt, or join the table to be part of the decision. I chose to be part of the process that determines the direction.”
■ “I joined AgForce to represent our organisation and see that members’ concerns are heard and acted upon. To grow in the future, we need active and younger members to get involved and help represent farmers at all levels of government.”
Nominations are open until noon on Wednesday, August 8, with ballots for contested positions opening on Wednesday, September 5.
AgForce has a page on our website with all the information about the 2018 elections, including position descriptions and nomination forms.
I can’t stress enough how important it is for members to take an active interest in this process and to help contribute to the industry’s future.
Agriculture is currently the fastest growing industry in the country, and there is enormous opportunity for more growth and prosperity with the right policy settings from governments.
Have your say and get involved to help us secure the continued productivity, profitability and sustainability of broadacre agriculture in Queensland.
