The Office gets new name

New owners days away from reopening popular venue

THE new owners of Toowoomba bar and venue The Office are just days away from opening the venue with a different name, layout and theme.

The property was bought last month by Brisbane restaurant owner Mic Uebergang and chef Karl Voll, both of whom have strong connections to Toowoomba and Darling Downs.

Mr Uebergang was born and raised on a property outside of Brookstead and spent five years in Toowoomba, while Mr Voll was one of the founders of Muller Bros.

Now named the Florence Public House, Mr Uebergang said the venue was being renovated and would feature a new menu and direction.

“Florence St is where I had my first pub and the floral aspect matches with Toowoomba, being the Garden City,” he said.

“It’s just a great space - a lot of exposed brick. We’re going to activate that lane way.

“It’s all about the experience - if you go to the different parts, you’re going to have a different experience.

“We’re not a pub - we haven’t got gaming or TAB, but we’re doing Australian pub food done well.”

The Chelsea Bar would reopen the same as it was before, with Mr Uebergang citing public demand.

Both venues would open within two weeks, depending on when liquor licences became available from the State Government.

The Florence branding has already gone up on The Office’s old Instagram and the website of Mr Uebergang’s company, Thirsty Occasions.

He also owns the Dalgety House in Newstead and the Oxford Garden in Bulimba.
