Switch to NBN or lose internet

-

PARTS of Toowoomba and its surrounds are being urged to make the switch to the National Broadband Network or face losing internet access.

As part of a nationwide upgrade of Australian telecommunications, services over the nbn access network are scheduled to progressively replace most existing landline phone and internet services for more than 4200 homes and businesses in parts of Cranley, Rockville, Wilsonton, Wilsonton Heights and Kingsthorpe from September 2018.

Moving to a service over the nbn access network is not automatic.

Those that are yet to switch are encouraged to contact their preferred phone and internet service provider to place an order as soon as possible to continue using their landline phone and internet services.

Residents and business owners should talk to their preferred phone and internet provider about a plan that meets their specific speed and data usage needs, as well as checking the compatibility of any special equipment operating on their current landline connection including eftpos terminals, and medical and security alarms.

The news comes as owners of unmonitored medical alarms (autodialling devices) are set to receive further assistance during their migration to services over the NBN access network, following enhancements to NBN Co's support for medical alarm users.
