Award-winning facilities
Project of the Year for St Vincent’s
IT’S official, St Vincent’s Private Hospital’s Clive Berghofer Operating Theatre Suite and the St Michael’s Rehabilitation Unit are award-winning facilities.
The Clive Berghofer Operating Theatre Suite is not only a state-of-the-art surgical facility equipped with the latest technology - its good looks and efficient build won Hutchinson Builders the Project of the Year at the 2018 Master Builders Downs and Western Housing and Construction Awards.
St Michael’s Rehabilitation Unit also took out the award for Top Facility under $20 million.
St Vincent’s CEO Kathryn McKeefry congratulated Hutchinson Builders’ team leader Shaun Spry on the success and said the new hospital facilities had also proven to be winning working environments.
Ms McKeefry said both projects required demolition work before construction could begin and both were completed while the normal operations of the hospital continued.
“Demolition or building in a working hospital presents challenges and impacts on our patients. We thank our staff and patients who were present during that time, the end result is that we have these fabulous facilities,” he said.
“Our staff and surgeons really enjoy working in the spacious, contemporary environments which have been designed to maximise workflows and efficiencies.”
Rehabilitation specialist doctor Nisal Gange said the new St Michael’s Rehabilitation Unit had been specifically designed to facilitate the recovery of his patients.
The new St Michael’s Rehabilitation Unit includes 22 inpatient rehabilitation beds giving the hospital six additional beds to offer to patients to help them recover from their stay in hospital in preparation for resuming normal life at home.
