-

NASH Mesquita-Mendes is Australia’s newest diplomat.

The USQ student is in Prague after his successful selection for the International Youth Leadership Conference this week.

The week-long youth forum facilitates an exchange of ideas across an ethnically diverse and socially responsible group of young leaders from around the world.

“No matter your background, understanding the functions and mechanisms of large institutions like the United Nations and European Parliament can only help in a thoroughly interconnected world,” he said.

“A case in point would be Brexit and the US – China trade woes, events that are going to affect businesses worldwide and disrupt the supply chains of major technology companies.

“I’m seeking an insight into the workings of organisations that are dealing with these issues.”

The Bachelor of Commerce and Information Technology student was also recently awarded the prestigious New Colombo Plan scholarship to attend the National University in Singapore and a six month internship with Price Water house Coopers.

Mr Mesquita-Mendes said it was important for students to seize the opportunities available to them during their time in higher education.

“They should be proactive in searching for opportunities that you are interested in and then make something of it,” he said.
