Storm star questions consistency

-

STORM star Jesse Bromwich says Melbourne must replicate a ruthless effort every week before they can be considered the new benchmark.

The reigning premiers blasted past the Canberra Raiders last week, piling on 14 unanswered points on the way to a convincing 44-10 demolition.

Bromwich was instrumental in the firsthalf onslaught, making valuable territory alongside giant Nelson Asofa-Solomona to set up the seven-try barrage.

“It was quite a ruthless performance but I think we’ve got to back that up this week before we can start talking about it like that’s (our standard),” Bromwich said.

“We were quite inconsistent before that, but we’ll hopefully back it up this week.”

Storm sits on top of the ladder, on points differential, having won their past eight games. While the perfect mid-season surge banked wins, Melbourne’s attack and defence wasn’t always in synch.

Bromwich said going up against a genuine premiership contender in South Sydney in Friday night’s blockbuster shaped as an “important” clash close to finals.

“Everyone is going to come after you (when you’re the reigning premiers) and I think this club in general, every year seems to be the hunted here,” Bromwich said.

“I think the competition is too hard to just be hunting one team. There’s four or five really good teams at the moment, I guess, pulling away from everyone and every other team is trying to knock them off.

“I’m not sure if we’re the only ones getting hunted.” — Gilbert Gardiner
