Australia among favourites to claim polocrosse title

-

POLCROSSE: Interest in next year’s polocrosse world cup is already high.

Warwick’s Morgan Park will play host to the week long international event in April 2019 with the world’s best players in action.

New naming rights sponsor Adina Watches are among those excited to be involved in the tournament.

“polocrosse is an exciting skills-based sport for both horse and rider, but it is also Australia’s own,” Adina Watches general manager Grant Menzies said.

“This made it an obvious choice to take on the naming rights for the event and to support not only the world cup but to help grow the sport.

“The sport is more about skill, finesse and technique than about pure speed or luck, making it a great sport to watch.

“And, in bringing the World Cup Down Under, 80 years after the sport was developed here is a great way to celebrate Australian ingenuity.”

Born in Australia in 1939, polocrosse has earned growing global interest ever since, seeing it now being played in dozens of countries across Europe, Asia, the Pacific, Africa and the USA.

As a result Australia has always been among the world’s top performers – winning the cup in 2003 and 2007 alongside runners-up finishes in 2011 and 2015.

However, Australia will be the hunter and not the hunted in 2019 with South Africa the current champions.
