Faulkner hits 20 years on the air

-

TOOWOOMBA breakfast radio announcer Lee Faulkner has celebrated 20 years on air.

Back in 1989 Bob Hawke was the Prime Minister, Queensland went through three premiers in the one year, the Canberra Raiders won the New South Wales Rugby League crown and a young aspiring media student hit the books.

Then in 1998 after almost a decade working in kitchens as a cook and selling almost everything from mobile phones to vacuum cleaners, Mr Faulkner walked into 4SB in Kingaroy, landing a sales job.

Within the week he was doing Saturday morning radio, and that’s where it all began.

In 2001 an ownership change at the radio station saw him move to Toowoomba where he became the man in the morning.

He’s been rocking breakfast radio for 20 years now, dominating the AM breakfast timeslot.

In his two-decade career he’s almost done it all.

But apart from drinking endless amounts of coffee, it’s the listeners’ stories that keep him going, paired with the ability to influence the community through initiatives like Give Me 5 for Kids, where he has been instrumental in raising more than $700,000 for the Toowoomba Hospital Children’s Ward.

His pure passion for the region, and the Parramatta Eels will drive him along for another 20 years, and the presenter reckons he’s not willing to give it away until the Eels lift the NRL premiership.
