Fish making anglers work hard to bag a good haul

-

THERE have been some great reports from Cooby Dam this past week with lots of fish.

Zx blades are still the stand out lure.

Saltwater yabbies have been working very well for the bait anglers, working them deeper banks towards the bouy line.

Trolled Jackall Tn60 lures in the late afternoon in the shallower weed edges have also had some outstanding results.

Somerset Dam

It has been rocks or diamonds this past week at Somerset.

You will struggle to find the active fish or have an unreal session on big bass.

The stand out lure is still the Gang Banger G2 – colour wise the fish haven’t been too fussy it’s all about getting it in their face.

When the fish are quite spread out on the open flats and hard to find, a trolled deep diving hard body can be ideal for this situation.

The lower end of the Queen street flats has been holding some great fish.

Cressbrook Dam

It’s still being quite tough on the water at Cressbrook this week – finding the fish and staying on them is the trickiest part as they are moving quite quick.

A slow wind drift instead of spot locking or anchoring can be quite successful for covering large amounts of water trying to catch the shut down bass.

The main lake points in the basin are where you want to start looking for the schooled bass.

Leslie Dam

The fish have really turned it on this past week with a massive cod caught last weekend measuring 115cm.

Locations like the wash pool or the old creek bed that runs towards the dam wall are still your best bet.

Blades and soft Jackalls have been stand out lures, while the bait anglers are having great success on saltwater yabbies and worms.

Copeton Dam

We’ve heard multiple reports from Copeton and it hasn’t all been good news.

It has been a grind but if you grind long enough you will be rewarded with a giant murray cod.

The river arm of the dam seems to be where most of the action has been and the Jackall Gigantarel and Gantarel have been by far the stand out lures.

With the water levels still being dropped daily, adding chin weights can be ideal for fishing these baits in deeper water as this is where most of the bites are coming from.

Pindari Dam

Some terrible news has come from Pindari during the week, as the dam has had a major fish kill and lost a lot of fish due to a water roll over.

The fisheries have asked that this dam gets left alone for a short period of time as they want the surviving fish to become healthy again.

Gold Coast Offshore

Some great snapper fishing has been had over last week from the 36 and 50 fathom reefs.

There has also been a good mixed bag of reefies as well such as tuskies and trag jew.

The odd cobia and mac tuna has been caught float lining pilchards and squid

Some solid amberjacks and kingfish have been caught wider off the coast jigging large knife jigs through the water column.
